My Favorite Appetizers

With Labor Day right around the corner, I wanted to share with you some of my most requested appetizers. All of these dishes are perfect for a cookout or just entertaining around the T.V. Like my desserts, I try to find yummy food that does not break the bank.

French Onion Soup DipFrench Onion Soup Dip

I love French Onion Soup and I love French Onion Dip so this appetizer recipe definitely called out to me. Since this was the first time making this dish, I did not make any changes other than the pan size. I used a foil loaf pan, as it would work for my presentation better than the casserole dish.

Beef Canapebristish beef canape

This isn’t really a recipe but more of a presentation. Very easy but oh so elegant.

  1. Slice french baguette into ½ inch rounds
  2. Spread a mixture of sour cream, fresh horseradish, and pepper onto bread
  3. Artfully place shave slices of roast beef atop the baguettes. I used deli sliced london broil roast beef
  4. To look all fancy, I topped with chopped chives

Easy Potato Skins

I would have never thought to do potato skins this way but is an awesome idea for finger food. When I ran across this recipe I had to try it since potato skins are my absolute favorite bar food. I did not change the recipe except to serve them with a ranch sour cream (just ranch powder mixed with a little sour cream).

Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar SmokiesBacon Smokies

This is by far the most amazing thing I have ever eaten. Seriously. I had this the first time a few years ago at a Super Bowl Party. Between me and my friend Ken, we make this dish quite often. This recipe has become our go to for parties and there is never an leftovers much to our disappointment. Some recipes call for a little melted butter (1/2 stick). I usually make the butter version and Ken usually makes the no butter version.

Spicy ShrimpFirecracker Shrimp

I love seafood and never need an excuse to eat more. Plus this is one of the only shrimp dishes my husband will even eat. My friend Ken makes this dish and has been itching to try it on our new grill (which I will talk about next week). If you like spicy, you can always make it spicier. If you like milder food, cut back the hot sauce and maybe add a little more sugar. (recipe)
