My Husband and the Horrible, Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Diet

1

We have a family wedding coming up in June, in the Bahamas…great excuse to get slim and trim right?

Last year, I convinced my husband to go Paleo and join crossfit, and he only grumbled a little. So this time, he asked me to do some military diet and I obliged…why not? Boy was I wrong. WAY wrong. Its called the 3 day military diet (fat boy diet according to my Army man) and you can check it out here. You have GOT to be kidding me!

Hot dogs? Ice cream? Crackers? There is no way this crap works.

Here is an idea of day 1 what we ate:

Day 1 – Breakfast
1/2 Grapefruit
1 Slice of Toast – preferably wholegrain
2 Tablespoons of Peanut Butter
1 cup Coffee or Tea (with caffeine) I drank this tea daily,

Day 1 – Lunch
1/2 Cup of Tuna or lean protein substitute
1 Slice of Toast
1 cup Coffee or Tea (with caffeine)

Day 1 – Dinner
3 ounces of any type of meat or protein substitute
1 cup of green beans
1/2 banana
1 small apple
1 cup of vanilla ice cream

Ya’ll. I seriously dislike hot dogs. They are so greasy and slimy and just what the heck is inside of them??? The horrible smell reminds me of one of my high school boyfriends who used to eat hot dogs every day after school. Gag! I just threw up a little thinking of it.

Next up is ice cream. I don’t really care for ice cream. Don’t attack me you guys, but what’s the big deal? Especially vanilla…does it get more blah? It melts all over your hands and is so sticky and always gives me a brain freeze. I’m a scrooge. I accept that.

And then there is plain canned tuna? Oh boy, This ain’t even cool.

But, I totally have to do it because its my turn to submit to his diet request. Oh heavenly Father, please help me make it 3 days. I can do anything for 3 days. Kids go to bed hungry every night across the world and would be thrilled with a hot dog or plain tuna and I’m not going to let this stupid diet beat me.

Well, I finished it!

My husband was BEGGING to order a pizza by day 2. HA! We both lost 4 lbs and a few oz’s so over all its a win, but it ain’t the 10 lbs in 3 days I was promised! If you attempt this diet, don’t look at the food for day 3 until it gets here or you’ll be dreading that day. (I told you not to look!) I did a little digging and found there is some actual science behind the foods and in the specific combination they are presented, but if you’re a foodie and love a good (hot) meal like me, this is kind of miserable.

The question you’re all waiting to ask, Would I do it again? heck yeah! This girl has 10 lbs of baby weight to go for her goal weight by June and 4lbs in 3 days sounds like a great way to get there.

Watch out Bahamas, here I come!

  1. That’s the same thoughts I had when I came across the 3 day military diet. Like you, I don’t eat hotdogs and stay clear of canned tuna for health reasons. But, I have to try this diet since my sister’s wedding is coming up next month. So, this is for me, a life and death situation (lol).
First day: it was difficult than I thought. I was quite irritable and edgy. My friend advised me to drink 3 liters of water to pump up my metabolism and make me feel full – which I did. I also went on brisk walks for around 10 minutes after dinner to further help me lose weight.
The next couple of days were easier. I think I had the hang of it! I replaced some food which I found distasteful (think hotdogs) with lean chicken. The vanilla ice cream was substituted with Greek yogurt. I was also quite thankful that black coffee was allowed!
At the end of the diet, I lost 7 pounds! My friend who also went on the diet with me only shed around 5 pounds. I think the results really varied depending on the individual. We decided to cycle the diet every 2 weeks to further lose weight.
