Atlanta is seriously bustling with fun and affordable activities October 13-19, but when isn’t our great city packed with kids activities?!  In this weeks edition of Thrifty Thursdays Atlanta we have 7 days of free or cheap activities for families to try out. On Saturday, be sure to dress up your little ones and head to Little 5 Points for the annual Halloween festival and parade, one of the largest in the country! Also this weekend, check out Brick-or-treat at Legoland Discovery Center for lots of family-friendly fun.
THURSDAY
Goodnight Moon & The Runaway Bunny

Root Beer Festival on the Decatur Square

Little Shop of Stories and the German Exchange Program at Decatur High School present the annual Root Beer Festival with an Oktoberfest twist! In addition to the great soda sampling, there will be bratwurst, Bavarian pretzels and other goodies for purchase, and music, games and lots of fun! All proceeds will benefit On The Same Page, Little Shop’s community-wide reading initiative, and the DHS German Exchange Program. Star gazing at Red Top Mountain Park

This is my OTP pick of the week. Drive about 30 minutes north of the city for the chance gaze at the night sky and learn all about the stars you’ll see. Meet at the visitor’s center and then carpool to the stargazing location together with a guide. Complimentary lemonade will be provided Heavy cloud cover and/or rain cancels this event. The Little 5 Points Halloween Festival & Parade

Create Tibetan Art at the Carlos Museum

Give your youngsters a little international exposure to Tibetan culture. Teaching artist Pam Beagle-Daresta will teach children to make paper kafen from Tibet. Class will take place in the Tate Room on the Plaza Level of the Michael C. Carlos Museum. Designed for children age 9-12. Space is limited and registration is required.
