Meet Rachel Virden

Like many people living in Atlanta I am a transplant.  I was raised in New Orleans and attended Mississippi State University where I met my husband, Scott.  After finishing his degree, Atlanta was a logical move for us because he works in the poultry industry.  You see, he is a Poultry Nutritionist, or as my cajun family lovingly calls him “The Chicken Doctor.”

Atlanta was a very lonely place those first few years we were here.  Neither of us previously had issues making friends, but it was just different in Atlanta.  Secretly, those first 2 or so years, we both wished to move but neither would acknowledge it to the other.  However, slowly things started to change and we started to find our niche is this big crazy city.  About the time I felt like I had my “village” – comprised primarily of our neighbors – I had our first son and then we also decided we needed to move.  Although not as extreme as the initial move to Atlanta, in some ways it was like starting all over again.

This time though I found a virtual village of moms through the My Atlanta Moms Club.  This wonderful group of ladies has become a source of inspiration for me to be the best mom I can be to our son and soon to be second child.  They are my confidants, my friends.  We can laugh, cry, commiserate, and rejoice in the trials and victories of being a mom.  While I never met many of the women in person they are still great friends that I am lucky to have.

I have served on the admin team for the group for several months.  Then when Caroline mentioned starting this website I was excited at the prospect of sharing even just a small portion of the wisdom and information I have learned from the other mommas in the group.  The MAMC website is going to be an amazing resource for mothers across this metro area but if you don’t join the facebook group you are missing out on a huge part of what makes My Atlanta Moms Club so special – don’t hesitate – join today!.

My husband and I moved to Atlanta approximately 10 years ago after finishing our degrees from Mississippi State University. Atlanta was a huge overwhelming town at first but the community I found with My Atlanta Moms Club helped make it our new home.
